SV Britannia girls crowned Dutch Caribbean Champions

CAY HILL--A skilled Aruban girls soccer team were crowned the Dutch Caribbean Soccer Champions after completing three straight wins over the weekend at the Roaul Illidge Sports Complex in Cay Hill.

The Dutch Caribbean soccer tournament which was birthed in St. Maarten, comprised four teams this year. They were Oualichi (St. Maarten), SV Britannia (Aruba), SUBT Korsou and a selection from Bonaire.
SV Britannia from Aruba defeated SUBT Korsou 3-2, whipped the Bonaire selection 5-0 and then beat Oualichi 3-0.
Not surprisingly, the top goal scorer and the MVP were also members of SV Britannia.
Mylene Croes and her teammate Jennifer Henao-Garces tied for the top spot with four goals each. However, the latter was given the MVP trophy and the former the trophy for the most goals.
Oualichi lost all three matches in the tournament. SUBT Korsou defeated the home girls 3-0 and Bonaire came out winners at 3-1.
Overall, the officials of Oualichi were pleased with the improvement showed by the team. President of St. Maarten Soccer Association Dwayne Wright commended all the teams for participating in the tournament but then send a direct warning to SV Britannia that “Oualichi will be coming to take the trophy next year.”
Equally optimistic was President of Oualichi Bamgar Daal who was firstly overjoyed with the level of improvement from the local girls and said that that improvement will make them “better and better in the future.”
Generally, the home team was outpaced in the field and lacked the creativity to set up goal scoring opportunities at the front.
Oualichi, which is one of the two female soccer teams on the island, will be scouting for new talent in the coming weeks.
