St. Martin associations help families and sport team on Pond Island

POND ISLAND--A big panel truck load of relief supplies, mostly clothes and shoes, arrived at the Little League Ballpark Thursday morning. The items were donated to Player Development for their families and for the families on Pond Island the baseball players have been helping including those living in the emergency shelter at Carnival Village and in the Little League Stadium.

The supplies were donated by Les Axes et Cibles Pour Tous and Friendly Island, both organizations from the French Side.
“We heard of the sports team and how they were helping people. We wanted to help too,” said Pour Tous president Fatima Boukhari. “It is nice for associations from the opposite sides of the island to work together.
There was no school on the Dutch side of the Island so the ball players helped unload the hundreds of boxes of neatly folded and ironed clothes packed in boxes and labelled for men, women or children.
There was also a box of sports clothes for the ball club.
Within minutes of the trucks departure, after photo taking, the supplies were placed on tables and distribution began. Nearly half the items were distributed by 5:00pm. Distribution continues this morning at the Ballpark starting at 10:30am.
