St. Maarten cricketers flood LI youth teams

CUL DE SAC--Quite a few of St. Maarten’s young cricketers have been identified to try out in the Leeward Islands youth teams during the summer vacation.


After competing with Anguilla in the Leeward Islands U15 tournament Nathan Edwards, Devanand Singh and Amarius Harris were chosen for the training camp for the Leeward Islands U15 team. The camp begins on July 14 and ends on July 21 in Antigua. Edwards and Singh are batsmen who bowl, while Harris is a left arm spinner.
The regional U15 tournament will be held in Barbados.
For the Leeward Islands U17, West Indies U17 selectee Antonio Fernandes and John Baptiste Moses were selected to the training squad in Antigua. That training squad runs from July 3–7. The West Indies U17 tournament will be held in Tobago from July 8–18. St. Maarten national coach Rishie Singh is the assistant coach and manager. Former West Indies fast bowler Winston Benjamin is the Head Coach.
St. Maarten is unable to field a full U19 team for the Leeward Islands tournament this year; therefore, four players from St. Maarten will join with Anguilla for the tournament. The four players are Trey Prosper, Kingzel Prince, Michael Lewis and Jeremy Hodge. All four players are set to travel to Anguilla on Saturday to take part in a practice match with their counterparts. The Leeward Islands U19 tournament is scheduled to play from July 8 to July 18.
In other related cricket news, Akeem Charles has been placed in the draft by the Leeward Islands for the Cricket West Indies 2017/2018 season. He will be hoping to be selected by the Leeward Island Hurricanes or one of the other five franchises. Sherwin Peters and Keacy Carty are players from St. Maarten who were contracted by Hurricanes. The draft is slated for July 7 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.

Under 15.
Three of our under 15 players – Nathan Edwards, Devanand Singh and Amarius Harris have been selected to the Leeward Islands under 15 training camp in Antigua from July 14 to 21, the regional under 15 will be held in Barbados .

Under 17
Two under 17 players – Antonio Fernandes and John Moses have been selected to the Leeward Islands under 17 camp in Antigua from July 3-7. The regional under 17 will be held in Tobago from July 8–18. Winston Benjamin is the head coach.

Under 19
Four of St. Maarten’s Under 19 players will play for Anguilla in the Leeward Islands under 19 tournament from the July 8–18, in Antigua. Kingzel Prince, Michael Lewis, Trey Prosper and Jeremy Hodge will travel Saturday to Anguilla to play a practice game with the Anguillan players, then return in evening and depart for Antigua on July 7.
