St. Maarten national boxing team Keyshawn Flanders, coach Shawn Blair and Tahnicio Peterson after winning two gold medals at the 4th edition of the Supreme International Boxing Event in Curacy.
CURAÇAO — Gold medal winning boxers Tahnicio Peterson and Keshawn Flanders are set to return home to St Marten with head coach Shawn Blair today at 3:00pm via Winair.
“The public is warmly invited to welcome and celebrate the achievements of our champions,, upon arrival,” said coach Blair.
The St. Maarten National Boxing Federation participated in the 4th edition of the Supreme International Boxing Event held on May 3 at Sambil in Curaçao. The event, featuring both amateur and professional bouts, welcomed boxing delegations from across the Americas and the Caribbean.
As a member of the American Boxing Confederation, the St. Maarten National Boxing Federation received a formal invitation to compete. Two promising athletes were selected to represent the nation and gain valuable international experience. The Sint Maarten team included: Shawn Blair – Head Coach, Tahnicio Peterson – Junior Boxer, 57 kg category, and Keshawn Flanders – Junior Boxer, 63.5 kg category
The team departed for Curaçao on April 29th and began their final preparations at AA Boxing Gym. During training, both athletes maintained excellent conditioning within designated category. The event featured a total of 12 exciting bouts between athletes representing St. Maarten. Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Curaçao, Ecuador, Guyana, the Dominican Republic, and Sint Both.
Sint Maarten athletes delivered outstanding performances. Tahnicio Peterson defeated Diego Parada (Curaçao) in the 57 kg Junior category and Keshawn Flanders bested Gabriel Vega (Curaçao) in the 63.5 kg Junior category.
These victories earned two gold medals for St. Maarten, with the national team proudly opening the fight night and setting the tone for an action-packed evening. Overall, Curaçao hosted nine bouts, winning seven.
The Sint Maarten National Boxing Federation remains committed to developing young talent and representing Sint Maarten with pride on the international stage.
