Members of the Masters Cricket Club cannot contain their excitement after winning the KFC T20 B-Division championship trophy on Sunday.
CUL DE SAC—A Keen, Fun and Competitive KFC T20 Tournament came to an exciting conclusion on Sunday, with Motorworld Spartans claiming the A-Division title and Masters capturing the B-Division championship at the Caribe Lumber Ballpark.
Masters secured the B-Division crown with a convincing six-wicket victory over We Lounge Kaieteur.
Batting first, Kaieteur posted a competitive 172 for five from their allotted 20 overs. Anil Persaud top-scored with 43 from 31 balls, including six fours, while Rasheed Pirkham provided late fireworks with a brisk 32 featuring three sixes and a four.
Lionel Ritchie (2-17) and Lerry Baptiste (2-26) were the standout bowlers for Masters, keeping Kaieteur in check despite the strong finish.
Masters responded confidently, with Romain Doodnauth leading the way with 28 (three fours, one six). Stephen Evans struck 26 (six fours), while Elias Aristhee remained unbeaten on 22 (two sixes, one four). Ritchie added 19 (three fours) before Baptiste finished unbeaten on 18 as Masters reached the target with eight balls to spare.
Chaka Hodge of Anguilla was Kaieteur’s best bowler with 2-35 from four overs.
Doodnauth was named player of the match in the B-Division final.
In the afternoon feature, played before a packed crowd, Motorworld Spartans cemented their status as one of the island’s premier cricket clubs with a four-wicket victory over Windward Express Conquerors to lift the A-Division title.
Conquerors were restricted to a below-par 122 for eight in 20 overs. Kelbert Walters top-scored with 43, including four sixes and three fours, while Mrinal Wadhwa ripped through the top order with an outstanding spell of 4-17 from four overs.
Spartans’ chase was anchored by Akeem Charles, who compiled a composed 46, striking four fours and two sixes. Dane Burton of Anguilla contributed 18 as Spartans comfortably reached the target to add another championship trophy to their growing collection.
Conquerors captain Shem Pascal was the pick of the bowlers with 3-21 from four overs.
Charles was named man of the match in the A-Division final.
Sun Insurance Jaguars all-rounder Sabinus Emmanuel was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP). Emmanuel finished as the leading run-scorer with 283 runs from seven innings and also claimed nine wickets with figures of 27-1-158-9.
At the conclusion of the tournament, Cricket St. Maarten and KFC management thanked the participating teams, officials, sponsors and the large number of spectators whose enthusiastic support contributed to another successful edition of the KFC T20 tournament.
