SUCKER GARDEN--Patrick Austrie won the R.H. Pool Club’s “New Rules” 9-Ball competition at the 8/9 Pool Bar in Sucker Garden on Sunday.
Austrie bested a field of eight including his own brother to win the competition. Austrie faced his brother Kelly Franklin in the final.
The new rule changes the spotting of the racked balls. On the old system, the one ball is the top ball of the rack and placed on the table spot. Under the new rules the balls are racked in the same order but the 9 ball in the centre of the rack is placed over the table spot.
“In the old system it was possible to sink the 9-Ball on the break and win with one shot,” said Pool Instructor Rudolph Hyman. “Under the new rules it is a lot harder.”
Hyman went on to say the club members seemed to like the change and enjoyed the variety.
Among the club members competing Sunday were Austrie, Franklin
Tony Watking, Joey Priest, Michael Paris, Shaun Swinfield, Alex Denzy and Hyman.
