Outstanding performances for St. Maarten Under 19 cricketers

ANTIGUA—The St. Maarten Under 19 cricketers performed outstandingly well in the Leeward Islands U19 tournament which was played in Antigua.


St. Maarten finished joined second place with St. Kitts on 12 points (2 wins, 1 loss) in the 50 overs tournament. Antigua and Barbuda won the 50 overs tournament. In the two-day tournament, St. Maarten placed third after Antigua and Barbuda and St. Kitts.
Of most importance were the outstanding performances from Mrinal Wadhwa, Daniel Doram and Shadrack Descarte. Of the top four run scorers in the tournament, three of them were from St. Maarten.
Doram collected 16 wickets to top the table with Jamal Shillingford of St. Kitts. Doram, who is presently based at Sussex Cricket Club in England, returned best bowling figures with five for 22.
Wadhwa made the most runs in the tournament when he amassed an aggregate of 394 runs with a highest score of 107 not out. In second place was Karima Gore from Antigua and Barbuda with 326 and a best 121. He also hit 109 against St. Maarten. Descarte 234 for third place with a best score of 119 and Doram compiled 225 with a top score of 71.
The highest individual score was posted by Jacob Parles of Anguilla. He scored 128 not out. The best bowling figures were registered by Shillingford who grabbed six for 31.
Cricket St. Maarten extends special congratulations towards St. Maarten coach Rishie Singh and manager Shawn May on the “brilliant team and individual performances of the local cricketers”. The full 13-man squad was Michael Lewis, Descarte, Mrinal Wadhwa, Doram , Johnelle Giraud, Kingzel Prince, Ezekiel Felis, Tyrone George, Christed Bardouille, Trey Prosper, Jeremy Hodge, John Moses and Antonio Fernandez.
The outstanding players from Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat, Nevis, St. Kitts and St. Maarten will be selected for a training camp in preparation for the regional U19 tournament in July/August.
