Nine clubs participate in 16th youth athletics meet

MARIGOT—At least nine sports clubs participated in Avenir Sportif Club’s 16th edition of its youth athletics meet held Saturday, April 29, 2017, making it once again a very successful event.


  Invited clubs participating included LAB Sports and Dynamics Club from St. Maarten, Speedy Plus from French Quarter, Avenir Sportif Club from St. Martin, Entente Athlétique Terres de Gwadloup, Etoile de Morne a L’Eau from Guadeloupe, Kannal Star also from Guadeloupe, Esprit Athlé from St. Barths, and a club from Anguilla
  The day began with kids training and workshops in the morning. Nearly 100 children participated from Speedy Plus Club and from the extracurricular programmes of the various schools of the island.
  For two hours children in teams took part in workshops learning the basic skills to succeed. In the tests they all succeeded brilliantly and were rewarded for their efforts with a medal, organisers noted.
  In the afternoon races and competitions were open to athletes in the Poussin to Cadet categories. First Vice-President Valérie Damaseau and Territorial Councillor in charge of sports, Jean-Raymond Benjamin, were on hand to present trophies to the young champions.
  The event was made possible by Getelec, Semsamar, Super U, Sportech, Crédit Mutuel, Bridge Café, Liasions Dangereuses, Rapido Print and the Collectivité’s Sports Department.
