Ludwig, Robinson, clinch best times at Guardian Group Run

PHILIPSBURG—Kasia Ludwig and Omarco Robinson respectively won the female and male 10K Guardian Group Run and Walk on Sunday according to preliminary results received.
Robinson, who seems to be winning every run he has entered in this year, coasted home in 36:48 a good distance ahead of second placed Justin Hodge from Anguilla in 39:04. Third place went to Erwan Gentil (39:20).
Hodge, who counts cycling, triathlons and marathons as his other sports, said he had been ill for two weeks but clearly recovered well for Sunday’s race.
Kasia Ludwig finished in a time of 46:11 followed by Patricia Nolf (49:05) in second and third placed Mary Wrigley in 53:35.
“It was my first time competing in this race,” said Kasia who has been living on St. Maarten for a year. “It wasn’t that difficult. Last year I didn’t run much as I was pregnant.”
Traditionally the respective winners receive air tickets to compete in the Curacao Guardian Group Run however Robinson, who won in Curacao in 2012, said circumstances have prevented him from participating there this time.
The Dynamics Team long distance coach who has won the Guardian Run in St. Maarten twice before, said he is still working on his conditioning.
“I’m catching up, trying to back in form,” Robinson said. “Each race I’m doing better. My focus now is on winning the 17K Red Cross Run on November 15.”
The 3K Run attracted mostly the younger participants. In the Under 12 years Male Category, Levar Pieters, the son of the Today reporter Milton, won in 12:41 just one second ahead of team mate Shemar Pink.
