ORIENT BAY—Martinique’s Lucas Velten was overall winner of both the Speed Crossings and Freestyle events on Sunday during the first leg of the 1st Guadeloupe/Northern Islands Kitesurfing Championship held in Orient Bay.
22 kite surfers took part in the Speed crossing on Saturday. Two different length courses were organised in the morning with winds in the 11-12 knots range.
In the first race 10 kite surfers were over early at the start which gave the advantage to Lucas Velten who went on to win the first race, and the second one.
In the speed crossing men’s overall results Velten was first, Jeremie Dieudonne (Wind Adventures, St. Martin) second, and Théo Demanez (Wind Adventures, St. Martin) third.
In the women’s category, Anne Veyre de Soras (Martinique) was first, Berenice Diven (St. Barths) second and Geraldine Durand (Guadeloupe) third.
Lucas Velten won the Freestyle event on Sunday, with Théo Demanez in second and Anne Veyre de Soras third.
Sunday produced more wind, in the 14-15 knots range giving the 10 kite surfers who registered some two hours to impress the judges with their moves.
The second leg of the championship takes place in June in Gudeloupe.
