SUCKER GARDEN— Jamaiah Newton-Herbert scored 20 points, had 20 rebounds, 8 steals, three blocks, and three assists as she led Lightning past Bush T Remedy in week two of the Ladies Basketball Championship at Melford Hazel Sport and Recreation Center.
Lightning won 67-44 after leading 32-24 at the half. Selah Fleming contributed 16 points, eight rebounds, five assists and one steal.
Bush T Remedy was led by Latoya Lake with 10 points, 10 rebounds, three assists; Jacqueline Hodge with 10 points, 12 rebounds, three steals, two blocks and Tamika Grell with 10 points, five rebounds and three steals.
Joyette Lloyd scored 28 points, had 21 rebounds, five steals, two assists and one block as she led Thunderz past Learning Unlimited. Thunderz won 50-38 after leading 28-21 at the half.
Chantel Hodge was good for 10 points, seven rebounds, five steals, three assists and one block in the winning effort.
Learning Unlimited was led by Rachael de Groot with 12 points, nine rebounds and eight steals and Wendy Jack with 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Games continue Sunday with the U16 teams playing from 2:00 to 3:00pm. The senior teams start at 3:00pm as Thunderz take on Lightning and at 5:00pm Bush T Remedy take on Learning Unlimited. Entrance fee is US $1. Food and drinks are on sale.
