SUCKER GARDEN—Everyone was a winner as the Ladies Basketball Championship tipped off week one of the Under 16 division at Melford Hazel Sport and Recreation Center Sunday.
Three teams, three games and three winners summed up the day. The Under 16 group plays a triangle series with a running clock of 15 minutes.
Aesha Gibson scored four points as she led Learning Unlimited to a 6-4 victory over Lightning in the first game. Lightning stayed on the court and tipped off against Thunderz. Lightening won 10-6 led with Kayla Robinson leading the effort with six points.
In game three, Learning Unlimited returned to the floor to face Thunderz. This time Aisha Carty stepped up with 10 points to give Thunderz a 14-6 victory.
In the Senior Division Player of the Game Jamaiah Newton-Herbert scored 28 points and was supported by Jonelle Richardson with 10 points as Lightening bested Learning Unlimited 58-43. Lightning started strong took a 35-18 half time lead.
Learning Unlimited led by Jakisha Brooks with 11 points and Wendy Jack with 10 points battled back to close the gap to 10 but could do no better.
Chantel Hodge netted 35 points as she led Thunderz to a 58-35 victory over Bush T Remedy. Thunderz led 34-17 at the half. Bush T Remedy was led by Jacqueline Hodge with 12 points and Shadella Williams with nine.
Games continue Sunday for the senior teams at 3:00pm as Lightning take on Bush T Remedy and at 5:00pm Thunderz meet Learning Unlimited. Entrance fee is US $1 and food and drinks are on sale.
