MARIGOT—Haiti Super Stars emerged champion team at the Veteran and Seniors six-a-side football competition organized in Bellevue by the United Super Force Club on Sunday.
The competition was organized to get players back in the mood for sport after a difficult period of recovery after the hurricanes. Nine teams registered in two pools, mostly from the French side.
After the preliminary rounds, Young Vets were top of Pool a with 16 points, followed by United Super Force 10 points, SMVC #2 with 9 points, Airport (SFSMA) 7 points, and Dominators 5 points. In Pool B Concordia was top with 12 points, Haiti Super Stars 9 points, SMVC #1 with 6 points and Presidente 3 points.
Haiti Super Stars progressed to the final where they beat Concordia 3-1. United Super Force took third place having dispatched fourth placed Young Vets 2-1. In the semi-finals Young Vets lost to Haiti Super Stars 0-1 while Concordia out played United Super Force 3-0.
The Best Goal Keeper award went to Goenin Maurile from the Dominators Team. Best Striker went to Thierry Samer from Concordia Team and Best Player went to Yvio Bazelais from Haiti Super Stars. The Airport Team (SFSMA) won the Fair Play award.
Organisers thanked the main sponsors; Ligue de Football de St. Martin, Green Finger Catering, SESMA Aéroport de Grand Case, CC1, Caribbean Liquors and Tobacco, Honourable Member of Parliament (Dutch side) Perry Geerlings, STCA, Antoine Landford, Dekra, Tony Parando and Daniel Arnel.
The competition was held in fine conditions followed by the BBQ enjoyed by everyone. Co-organiser Glen Brooks noted there will be more competitions to come.
