Ekema wins second sparring bronze medal, still wants gold

ENGLAND--A possible broken hand has stopped Henderik Ekema from winning a gold medal at the World Taekwondo Championships, in Birmingham, England.

“I became third again and couldn't continue the semi-final because of a possible broken or fractured hand,” said Ekema.
Ekema had competed in the Championships in 2016 and won two gold medals in break tests but bronze in sparring. The plan was to return to the World Championships in 2017. The plans were blown away by Hurricane Irma.
Before boarding the plan for England, Ekema had said this would be his last attempt at gold. But after the fight he said: “Right now I cannot stop this lovely sport which I've been doing for so many years!!!”
He continued to say he wants to try one more time, but this time his family will travel with him...and “watch me fight for the first time.”
