PHILIPSBURG--Seasoned Bodybuilder Desmond Patterson, will be competing for the third time in the 15th Annual Sport World Classic Bodybuilding, Fitness & Body Fitness Invitational Championship to be held in Trinidad today, Saturday, June 24.
In the previous competitions he placed respectively third and second in the Heavyweight category. This time he is going for the win and feels very confident of his chances.
"He has something to prove in Trinidad," St. Maarten Body Building and Fitness Association (SMBBFA) President Martina Rodney-Jones said quoting Desmond and adding, as the saying goes, “the third time is a charm".
“Desmond has been concentrating on gaining the mass this year but at the same time keeping his physique tight and hard,” Rodney-Jones explained. “He has been prepping from the beginning of the year and staying true to his diet and it is very obvious in his picture that he is being very successful in achieving this.
“He is going to be having a very busy year,” she added as he will also be competing in the upcoming BFASM Invitational, which is to be held next week on July 1, 2017 where he is hoping to have that overall win under his belt. “Last year he placed second in that competition.”
During the period August 4 -6, 2017, Desmond will be travelling to Aruba along with other SMBFFA athletes to compete at the Ben Weider Classic.
“This competition is an opportunity for all International Federation of Body Building (IFBB) athletes to try to attain that elusive Pro Card that so many are trying to win and Desmond is very confident of his chances,” Rodney Jones continued. “He is always telling me "By the Grace of God Martina I will get it".
“This is going to be a very big show as athletes all over the world, once under the IFBB, can compete. If unsuccessful, which we hope is not the case, then he will have one more opportunity at the Central American & Caribbean (CAC) Bodybuilding & Fitness Championship which will be held in Mexico from September 28 to October 1, 2017.
“One of Desmond's greatest desires is to join the ranks of a "Pro" along with the only three other Bodybuilding and Fitness Pro Athletes in St. Maarten; namely Allison Williams, Alvin Andre and Yoly Hawley.
“As he told me he is not getting any younger and his body is getting tired so this year he is giving it his all. He stated that it is time for him to start stepping aside and let the young ones take over but he will still be willing to share his knowledge and wisdom and contribute back to the sport in any way he possibly can.
“The St. Maarten Bodybuilding & Fitness Association (SMBBFA) wishes Desmond all the best in Trinidad and we are all rooting for him as well as his family, fans, sponsors and supporters and wish him much success as well in his future competitions,” concluded Rodney-Jones
