WILLEMSTAD--Curaçao equestrian federation Aspafiko officially presented the national team, providing them with competition attire and equipment in the run-up to the International Equestrian Tournament taking place in the Dominican Republic from July 15 to 19.

In total, 26 athletes will represent the island during the meet, with participants from nine countries. In addition to Curaçao, these include the United States, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Canada, Aruba, Panama and the host country. The event, held every two years, is considered an important international competition within the sport.

During the competitions, participants ride their own horses and take part in various official tests. A jury determines the winners per category.

Last Saturday the riders met with chairman Alfonso Zinhagel and the board of Aspafiko at Harbor Restaurant in Oteobanda. After a joint breakfast, Zinhagel addressed the team and offered the riders words of motivation for the upcoming tournament. Subsequently, the official outfits and various support materials were presented so that the athletes could travel well-prepared.

Aspafiko, active in Curaçao, an equestrian sport, for many years, is committed to the development and promotion of the sport among both youth and adults. According to the organisation, participation in international competitions contributes to the growth of the discipline on the island.
