Basketball Association hosts successful camp

PHILIPSBURG - The St. Maarten National Basketball Association (SXMNBA) hosted their 2024 Basketball Camp, at the St. Maarten Academy P.S.V.E. Gymnasium from December 29, to January 2. The camp catered to boys and girls ages 9-19. Coach Thomas Fabian, a distinguished figure in the basketball community, led the camp imparting valuable knowledge and fostering a positive learning environment for all attendees. Under Coach Fabian's guidance, the camp aimed to develop fundamental skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. “I want to thank the SXMNBA for inviting me to direct their first camp of 2024, said Coach Fabian. “I gave our young athletes 3 goals at the beginning of camp: To improve their skills, take away a few things to continue improving, and to have fun. Thanks to the campers’ great attitudes and hard work, we were able to accomplish those three goals. The future of basketball on the friendly island is bright! “ The camp was made possible by support from the St. Maarten Development Fund (SMDF, ) Intermar Shipping, Computech, Motorworld, CIBC First Caribbean Bank, Color-Rite Copy Center and Jisk Goslinga from the St Maarten Sports Department. Carl’s and Sons Unique Bakery provided lunch boxes each day, ensuring that the participants were fueled and energized throughout the camp. The SXMNBA looks forward to building on this success and continuing to promote the growth and development of basketball in St. Maarten. The association remains committed to providing opportunities for young talents to thrive in the sport, fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The SXMNBA will be starting the “SXMNBA Basketball Academy” and will be collaborating with the Caribbean Youth Development INC, Island Elite Sports Foundation and more to help give our youth’s opportunities in life, basketball and education.
