Baseball athlete Turner gets sports scholarship

ST. EUSTATIUS --D'Shandre Turner is the latest local high school athlete to be scouted and be college bound.
Turner is headed to Dawson Community College in Montana on an athletic scholarship.

A total of 28 local student athletes both male and female from St. Maarten, St. Martin, Anguilla and host St. Eustatius attended a college showcase the last weekend of January.
Recruiters from schools across the United States attended the showcase to watch first hand the baseball or softball skills of the athletes.
Turner is the first to commit to a college in the New Year, but according to Alex Arndell, Chairman of Island Elite Sports Foundation who organized the showcase, Turner is not the only athlete to draw the scouts attention. Arndell expects more scholarships to come this way.
Last year several local athletes earned athletic scholarship with the help of Island Elite Sport Foundation and their team of sport organizations.
Working together to make the showcase possible were Island Elite Sport Foundation (Statia), NB Scouting, C5T Elite Sports Training, Simple Sports Foundation (St. Maarten) and Vinicy Brooks Baseball Academy (Anguilla.)
Arndell congratulated Turner and said, “All the best to you as a new Buccaneer. We hope you keep working hard so that your academic and athletic dream can come true.”
