USVI showcases culture, tourism initiatives at 2023 NABHOOD Investment Summit & Trade Show

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, US Virgin Islands--The United States Virgin Islands (USVI) participated as a lead sponsor at the Annual International African American Hotel Ownership and Investment Summit and Trade Show, organised by the National Association of Black Hotel Owners, Operators, and Developers (NABHOOD). According to a press release from USVI Department of Tourism, the event, which took place from July 19 to 21, at the Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay Hotel provided an excellent platform for the USVI to highlight its commitment to hospitality and multicultural tourism.

During the hospitality and tourism executive roundtable, USVI Commissioner of Tourism Joseph Boschulte actively engaged with esteemed industry leaders to discuss pertinent tourism trends. Commissioner Boschulte highlighted the USVI’s efforts to establish itself as a premier luxury destination with upscale accommodations and recent additions like the Pink Palm Hotel and Morningstar Buoy Haus Beach Resort.

Together with the Virgin Islands Economic Development Authority’s Management team led by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Wayne L. Biggs Jr. the Department of Tourism spotlighted how the territory’s strategic location makes it attractive to private aviation, increased hotel development and expanded cruise tourism experiences.

Amidst celebrating the multicultural heritage and overcoming pandemic challenges, the USVI witnessed remarkable tourism growth, hosting nearly 295,000 airline passengers in the fiscal year 2023, reflecting a robust 75.2% hotel occupancy rate. Moreover, the territory anticipates a significant increase in cruise tourism in 2023, with an additional 630,000 cruise passengers expected throughout the Territory, including at least 140,000 passengers in St. Croix, tripling the numbers from the previous season.

“As we embrace the path to recovery in the tourism industry, it is crucial for us to focus on niche markets like the Black owners and investors to showcase the unique offerings of the US Virgin Islands,” Commissioner Boschulte stated. “Our participation in NABHOOD allows us to connect with industry pioneers, share our vision, and promote our rich cultural heritage.”

The USVI further enhanced its presence at NABHOOD as the sponsor of the captivating “Island Vibes” Sunset Tropical Caribbean Cruise Reception aboard The South Beach Lady. Attendees were treated to the rhythmic beats of a steelpan while Mocko Jumbies danced at the dock, setting the perfect tone for the evening. The event brought the USVI rhythm and culture to life, leaving a lasting impression on all the guests.

“We are thrilled to showcase the US Virgin Islands as a diverse and culturally rich destination for travellers from all around the world,” said Commissioner Boschulte. “Our commitment to hospitality, inclusivity, and offering unforgettable experiences remains unwavering, and we are excited to welcome visitors to our shores.”
