Skerrit to lead delegation to US for talks on cruise ship port

ROSEAU, Dominica--Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit will lead a delegation to the United States (US) later this month for talks on the construction of a new cruise ship and cargo port for the island.

Skerrit, winding up the debate on the EC $1.02 billion budget in Parliament on Friday night, said that he intends to travel to Miami, Florida, “in the next two weeks” to begin negotiations on projects which he said would contribute significantly to the island’s socio-economic development.

“We spoke here about building the new cruise port and the new cargo port and, as a matter-of-fact, in the next two weeks I am going to Florida to meet with the developers and to meet with the financiers,” Skerrit said.

He said he is also expected to meet with cruise line representatives and that his delegation would include 22-year-old Lorenzo Sanford, who was elected Chief of the Kalinago Reserve in late July. The Kalinago Reserve is where Dominica’s indigenous people reside.

“We intend to carve out this special arrangement for the Kalinago (Carib) people,” he said. ~NationNews~
