Guyana targets three million transiting  Passengers, one million visitors by 2030

Minister Rodrigues said the government will roll out a series of initiatives to boost travel to Guyana

GEORGETOWN--Guyana has set ambitious new tourism targets, aiming to welcome three million transiting passengers through its ports of entry and attract at least one million visitors annually by 2030.

The announcement was made on Monday by Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Susan Rodrigues, during a high-level engagement with hoteliers, tour guides, and operators at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.

Minister Rodrigues said the government will roll out a series of initiatives to boost travel to Guyana, including the establishment of a comprehensive calendar of events—with at least one major event scheduled each quarter—and the intensification of Destination Guyana’s international marketing drive.

Acknowledging the strong presence of the Guyanese diaspora among travellers, the Minister urged stakeholders to design special rates and packages that specifically target this group. She also encouraged the introduction of Staycation packages to keep locals engaged, especially during the off-season.

In outlining new strategies, Rodrigues proposed a US$200 daily spending cap for Guyanese travellers. While not mandatory, she explained, the figure would serve as a benchmark to shape promotional campaigns and encourage affordable travel options.

She further announced the establishment of tourism information centres at all major ports of entry, ensuring that travellers immediately have access to details about events and attractions across the country.

“We have already started work on establishing a calendar of events, beginning in January 2026 and running right through to December. The idea is simple, if a person is coming to Guyana, they must know what is happening,” Minister Rodrigues stated.

The Minister pledged close collaboration with industry stakeholders to address persistent challenges, including high domestic travel costs and limited access to major attractions, as part of the broader effort to advance Destination Guyana. ~News Room~
