DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 1100 AM AST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Gabrielle was located near latitude 20.5 North, longitude 33.8 West. Gabrielle is moving toward the northwest near 9 mph (15 km/h), and this motion is expected to continue through Saturday, with an increase in forward speed expected late in the week.

 

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next few days.

 

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 km) from the center.

 

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1003 mb (29.62 inches).
