DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK
----------------------
At 1100 AM AST (1500 UTC), the centre of Hurricane Florence was located near latitude 24.6 North, longitude 48.6 West. Florence is moving toward the northwest near 10 mph (17 km/h). A turn toward the west-northwest and west with a decrease in forward speed is expected through Saturday. Florence may begin to move faster toward the west-northwest over the western Atlantic early next week.
Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 105 mph (165 km/h) with higher gusts. Additional weakening is forecast during the next day or two. However, Florence is expected to remain a hurricane and likely re-intensify over the weekend.
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 15 miles (30 km) from the centre, and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km).
The estimated minimum central pressure is 975 mb (28.80 inches).
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND
----------------------
SURF: Swells generated by Florence will begin to affect Bermuda on Friday and will reach portions of the U.S. East Coast over the weekend. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Please consult products from your local
weather office.
