Show some integrity – get it over with

Dear Editor,

When I continue to mention that for years now the people in government have been getting paid for doing nothing, is not this single use plastic bag saga a real testament?

I would like to hear a valid reason for the delay, reprieve, postponement, deferment or even stay of execution.

You asked, “What in heaven’s name is taking it so long?” I say for heaven’s sake do something (before something do you).

When it comes to taking care of the environment, our people in government look like they are in a nursery school in comparison to The Sint Maarten Nature Foundation.

I am aware that the new government has not got its feet wet yet, but all of them have been around and know about the single use plastic bag saga. At least if their ambition was to become a politician they should have been following what was happening in government.

I hope for heaven’s sake that the new ones have not been bitten by the “what’s in it for me?” bug. Deciding who is going to become the import agent for those biodegradable products could also be a delay factor. But with all the court cases and the threats to lock up, I would like to put in my two words of advice by going back to my roots while adding this: “A wise fish that sees a beautiful bait that is easy to swallow knows that a sharp hook is attached to it.”
