Wuite meets with WITU on concerns

POND ISLAND--The Windward Islands Teachers Union (WITU) outlined the concerns of its membership during a meeting with Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports (ECYS) Jorien Wuite on Wednesday.

Wuite told reporters at the weekly Council of Ministers press briefing that the meeting had been constructive and fruitful.

Concerns affecting teachers raised by the union are related to matters such as the extended workdays, vacation days in the summer, fatigue, compensation and the value of teachers in society.

Wuite said it is important to have this reviewed and discussed extensively. She said also that a “good,” “sound” and “constructive” agreement had been made with the union on the way forward in addressing these matters.
