Winair reports 2015 net profit

SIMPSON BAY -- The annual general meeting of Windward Islands Airways International Winair shareholders took place at Dr. Claude Wathey Legislative Hall on Wednesday.   Present were the shareholders represented by St. Maarten’s Council of Ministers, Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment Director of Aviation Dr. Rob Huyser, Dutch Government policy advisor Cor van Wijk, Representative of the Netherlands Chris Johnson, and the Supervisory and Executive Boards of Winair.

  The local airline’s 2015 audited financial statements were accompanied by a clean auditor’s opinion and showed a net profit of US $2,983,506. Although profit has been posted, the company remains in a negative equity position due to debts and losses incurred prior to ownership transfer from the former Central Government of the Netherlands Antilles to Country St. Maarten on 10-10-10.

  Prime Minister William Marlin, the Council of Ministers and the representatives of the Netherlands congratulated Winair and its employees for a great job and wished them continued success.
