Wiel’s appointment at CBCS withdrawn

WILLEMSTAD--The February 4, 2016 appointment of former Windward Islands Police Chief Fred Wiel as Supervisory Board member at the Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Maarten (CBCS) has been withdrawn by the Government of Curaçao.
A national decree to that effect was signed by Finance Minister Kenneth Gijsbertha on July 10 this year.

The decree to appoint Wiels had never been passed by co-shareholder St. Maarten as required. Why is not made clear.
The new CBCS board is one member short; a seventh member proposed by Curaçao was still in the process of being screened.
Former Antillean Prime Minister Etienne Ys is the joint chairman agreed on by the two countries of the monetary union that further nominate three board members each.
