VROMI is warning against illegal wastewater discharge

The Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure (VROMI) warns the public that unauthorised discharge of wastewater could result in enforcement action. Residents are encouraged to report any suspected illegal wastewater discharge or connections using the provided QR-code.

PHILIPSBURG--The Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure (VROMI) has warned property owners, businesses and contractors against discharging wastewater into government drainage systems or onto public roads, saying violations could result in enforcement action.

The Ministry said unauthorised wastewater discharge can create environmental and public health concerns, contribute to unpleasant odours and unsanitary conditions, and damage drainage infrastructure and the surrounding environment. According to VROMI, discharging wastewater in this manner violates the National Wastewater Ordinance and the Algemeen Politie Keur (APK).

The Ministry said it will monitor the situation and take action against individuals and entities found discharging wastewater illegally. Where wastewater pipes or connections are found to be unlawfully connected to government drains or used to discharge wastewater onto public roads, the Ministry said it may block the unauthorised connections.

VROMI urged property owners, businesses and other parties to ensure wastewater is properly contained, transported and disposed of through approved methods and facilities. The Ministry also called on the public to ensure wastewater is connected to sealed holding tanks and disposed of responsibly in accordance with applicable requirements.

Residents who suspect illegal wastewater discharge are encouraged to report it to the Ministries of VROMI and Justice using the QR-cod
