USM reopens on January 8

POND ISLAND--University of St. Martin (USM) will reopen its doors to students and the public as of January 8.
The opening is possible thanks to a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the institution and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth, and Sport.

USM said in a press release on Friday that the 10-week semester for continuing students will start as of Monday, January 15, and end on Monday, April 9.
The plan for the remaining terms in this academic year is to have two 10-week semesters for Spring and Summer which will allow students who were scheduled to graduate to still be able to do so. The first semester classes will start as of Monday, January 15, and end on Monday, April 9. Registration for students who were enrolled in Fall 2017 has already started. These students have already received an e-mail from the Registrar team with guidelines for re-registering and they are encouraged to reply to the Registrar indicating their interest in continuing and the courses they wish to continue with in Spring 2018, USM said in the release.
The second semester is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 7, and end on July 28. Graduation is expected to be held in August prior to the start of the Fall 2018 semester scheduled to begin on August 20. Persons who may not have received an e-mail registration can register at the office during the week of January 8.
New students who may be interested in applying for the semester can start applying as early as January 3 by downloading or submitting an online application form at:
www.usm.sx .
New application forms can also be dropped off at the USM campus as of January 3. Persons who are applying for the first time are encouraged to submit the completed application form, a copy of their highest academic diploma, copy of valid ID, registration form, two passport pictures and the application fee of US $25. New students can also contact the Admissions Department via email:

USM’s management and Board of Directors would also like to meet with students and faculty for a “welcome-back” celebration to make a toast to the way forward after salvaging USM, and honouring them for their patience, commitment and strength throughout the difficult times they all faced, USM said in the release. The “welcome-back” event will be held at USM for students on January 11, at 5:30pm and for faculty on January 12, at 5:30pm.
