CAY HILL--Hospital staff had to deal with a horrific scene of a seven month old baby arriving at the St. Maarten Medical Center Emergency Room on Sunday afternoon bleeding after grandparents said a dog attacked the child. Due to the seriousness of the attack and the non-stop bleeding, the child passed away. The incident took place in the district of Oyster Pond.
The dog is a large American Bull dog and belongs to the grandparents. Police spokesman Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson said, “The seven month old boy was sitting in his walker when for no reason the child was attacked by the dog. The grandparents who were taking care of the child at the time of the incident tried tirelessly to get the child away from the dog but the dog refused to let go. When the dog finally let go, the child was immediately taken for medical treatment, however, the child died as a result of the injuries he sustained.”
The Prosecutors Office ordered the confiscation of the body of the seven month child for further investigation. A Police K-9 officer was called in to retrieve the dog from the premises and was taken for safe keeping to the police station in Philipsburg.
