POND ISLAND--The University of St. Martin (USM) is inviting the public to attend Lit Night at USM today, Thursday from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.
Attendees are encouraged to wear yellow as a show of hope, support and solidarity on World Suicide Prevention Day. The event will take place at the USM campus and will provide an open-mic platform for students, faculty, staff and members of the public to share poetry, floetry, spoken word, short stories and other forms of creative expression.
USM said the event is open to experienced performers, people sharing their work for the first time and those who simply want to support local talent.
Wearing yellow is encouraged but is not mandatory. USM hopes the evening will also remind people of the importance of checking in on others and making time for meaningful conversations. The university noted that sometimes a simple message or conversation can remind someone that they are not alone.
Admission is free. Members of the public are invited to share their voice, enjoy the work of others and connect with the community through the arts.
