PHILIPSBURG--Fewer than 25 recalled Tyson products were found during inspections conducted by the Inspectorate of Public Health. Tyson Foods Inc. had issued a recall of approximately 11,829,517 pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat chicken-strip products.
The reason for the recall is potential contamination with pieces of metal. Some of these products might have been shipped to St. Maarten. The recalled products were produced between October 1, 2018, and March 8 this year. They have “Use By Dates” from October 1, 2019, through March 7, 2020. On the back of the product’s package, establishment number “P-7221” is mentioned.
Inspector General Dr. Earl Best said in a press release on Thursday that the Inspectorate had conducted “the necessary checks” to establish the extent to which the recalled products have entered into the St. Maarten market.
“In this respect, the authorities in the United States were also consulted and inspections were performed at both local importers and various supermarkets. A small amount of less than 25 recalled products were encountered. These were taken off the shelves and instructions to discard them were given,” Best said in the release.
He said the inspectorate had not yet received any complaints related to the recall. “However, the Inspectorate informs all consumers not to consume any of products listed and will continue monitoring the local market.”
The affected products are branded under different names and include:
* Tyson fully-cooked crispy chicken strips/chicken breast strip fritters with rib meat;
* Tyson fully-cooked Buffalo-style chicken strips/chicken breast strip fritters with rib meat and Buffalo-style sauce;
* Tyson fully-cooked honey BBQ-flavored chicken strips/chicken breast strip fritters with rib meat and honey and BBQ-style sauce smoke flavor added;
* Best Choice Buffalo-style chicken strips made with white meat chicken/chicken breast strip fritters with rib meat glazed in a Buffalo-style sauce fully cooked;
* Great Value fully-cooked chicken strips/chicken breast strip fritters with rib meat/crispy;
* Food Lion crispy chicken strips fully-cooked/chicken breast strip fritters with rib meat made with white meat chicken fully-cooked/microwaveable;
* Food Lion buffalo-style chicken strips/fully-cooked breaded chicken breast strips fritters with rib meat and glazed with Buffalo-style sauce made with white meat chicken/fully cooked/microwaveable;
