Two ‘objections’ filed against new hotel

POND ISLAND--The Ministry of Infrastructure VROMI has received two “objections” against the planned Planet Hollywood hotel slated for the former Sonesta Great Bay Beach Resort location on the Great Bay beach. The legal objection period ended on May 20.

An independent committee will look into the nature of the objections and determine whether they are considered to be founded. This committee will have to be appointed in consultation with the ministry’s secretary-general.

If the objections are founded, changes will have to be made to the existing requested building permit. Should the committee determine the objections are not warranted, the building permit will be issued and construction can commence at the site.

The plan is for a 452-room hotel and casino.

The property is owned by Canada-based travel group Sunwing.
