CAY HILL--Two men, who are said to have had brushes with the law, were fatally shot when they ambushed a Pan American Protective Services money transport service in Cay Hill early Tuesday morning.
Police Spokesperson Ricardo Henson told The Daily Herald that a third suspect, the getaway driver, managed to escape in a so far unidentified red vehicle.
According to reports the men ambushed the Pan American vehicle as it was exiting the parking lot of the Executive Commercial Centre in Cay Hill about 8:00am on Tuesday. Exactly what transpired could not be ascertained, butduring the incident the Pan American Protective Services armed officers managed to shoot and kill two of the bandits. A Pan American officer himself sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. He was treated on the scene and transported to St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) where he received further medical attention and was then released.
Henson said police were aware of the identity of the two deceased suspects. He said they were known to authorities. This newspaper understands that one of the suspects known by the alias “Salty,” had been incarcerated for a number of years for being part of the group known as Scary Bandits, which had been responsible for a number of robberies. He was also allegedly arrested for the Sotiabank robbery last year, but had been released. The second deceased bandit is said to be known as “Denzel.”
Henson said authorities were still gathering information and interviewing persons about the incident, which he said had been unfortunate.
