DAWN BEACH--The Ocean Jewelers store inside the Marriott Resort in Dawn Beach reportedly was robbed on Friday afternoon by two or three men, marking the third robbery of a jewellery store at a resort on the dutch side of the island in the last four months, according to preliminary police reports.
The suspects allegedly entered the store, carried out the robbery and then fled toward the French side of the island. The St. Maarten Police Force KPSM Robbery Unit is actively investigating the incident.
Unconfirmed reports from witnesses suggest that staff members and possibly some tourists may have been targeted as well during the robbery. Police have not yet released details on whether anyone was injured or the exact value of the items taken.
The first robbery of a jewellery store at a resort this year occurred at Splash Jewelers in Simpson Bay Resort on July 9. Three masked individuals drove their vehicle into the store’s front entrance, assaulted the store owner, and fled with an undisclosed amount of jewellery.
The second robbery occurred at Royal Caribbean Jewelers in Divi Little Bay Resort on September 5. In a bold daylight theft around 4:30pm, the perpetrators gained entry to the resort, despite its reputation for controlled access through a security booth and boom gate.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the Ocean Jewelers robbery or any of the previous incidents to contact the police immediately.
