Theft suspect caught  after short foot chase

SUCKER GARDEN--The St. Maarten Police Force KPSM arrested a man D.L.M. in Sucker Garden around 8:20am Sunday on suspicion of theft. He attempted to flee from law enforcement on foot and was apprehended after a short foot chase.

Police said several patrols were sent to Lulu’s Garage in Sucker Garden on Sunday morning because a man was seen breaking into vehicles on the premises.

When police officers arrived at the scene, they saw M. on the company’s property. According to police, officers approached M. with the intention of asking him to identify himself and to ascertain his reason for being on the property.

“While being approached, the officers noticed that the suspect began acting very nervous and [he – Ed.] decided to pass between some of the cars stored in the yard and run away. The officers, together with marines who [had] also arrived at the location, started a foot chase in an attempt to apprehend the suspect,” said police in a press release on Sunday night.

Law enforcement successfully apprehended M. near a home in Sucker Garden after a short foot chase. He was taken to the Philipsburg police station, where he is being held pending further investigation.
