POND ISLAND--The 2014 TelCell Breakthrough Talent Search winners took to their final spotlight together in releasing a culmination of their work, a joint music video for their single "who you are," encompassing all four categories of instruments, vocals, rap and dance, at TelEm Group headquarters on Friday amongst proud project organisers and stakeholders.
The winners have embarked on a one-year "dream programme" and further honed their artistic talents, making appearances at various entertainment events and featuring in company promotions. They looked back at their accomplishments over the year with a slideshow before the music video premiered.
The talent earning them their title was pushed and polished, with them creating their own beats, lyrics and choreography, resulting in a high-quality video made possible through TelCell, the project- and production team over three months. The video was directed by Joel Ayuk.
"This was 100 per cent their talent," said Xtratight Entertainment Managing Director Berteau "Mr. Rude" Fleming, who provided beats and concepts for them to choose from, and formed the production to make it more commercial.
He said he was proud of the production having a different concept, because artists "need to be noticed and come out with their own style and identity."
The story line centres on a young discouraged girl being encouraged to try out for Little League baseball, the video being shot at the neighbouring Little League Ball Park.
The winners were encouraged to keep pushing for their dreams, stay focused, keep experimenting and continue to be positive role models for the youth as they left the nest by Mr. Rude, project coordinator Angel Richardson, Mentor David Evans, and TelEm Group Marketing Manager Emile Van der Weerd. Various others involved in the project also joined for the video release.
The winners said they were very happy with the outcome of their work, and that they got to see new opportunities open up and create new bonds together.
Mr. Rude said he would send the final product to his contacts in the Netherlands, adding that he has a large global network of DJs that he can share with.
Over 100 applicants have already registered for the upcoming TelCell Breakthrough Talent Search auditions, slated for August 15 at Philipsburg Cultural Center.
The 2014 Breakthrough winners were Tristan Defoe for dance; Serenity Martinus for rap; Reborn (formerly Arias-4) for vocals, which includes singers Kimberly van Heyningen, Francia Adamus and Khadija Joseph; and New Generation Status drum band, comprising seven members: Jonathan Leonard, Antonio Lake, Rupshen Long, Steven Cyrillien, Ashar Gumbs, Mareel Louison and Akeim Housen.
