Tear gas in prison

WILLEMSTAD--Tensions are rising at Curaçao’s “Sentro di Detenshon i Korekshon Kòrsou (SDKK)” prison.

In a short online video, inmates demanded a meeting with the Minister of Justice Quincy Girigorie about the food, a shortage of medication and the lack of timely medical care.

On Monday, guards had to use tear gas to get the protesting detainees back into their cells.

There was no immediate word from the Minister about whether he would meet with the prisoners.
