MARIGOT--Non-profit association Caribbean Sail Training (CST) announced that sail training vessel “Gulden Leeuw”, newly acquired by the Dutch organisation Masterskip (also owners of the well-known “Wylde Swan” and “Noorderlight”) will soon make its first visit to Saint Martin and will be offering a Maritime Experience Day to island students on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, the first of the new season.

The vessel will be hosted by the Galisbay Port and students will have the opportunity to interact with the Dutch students on board and set sail for the half-day trip. Sailing will be from 9:00am until approximately 1:00pm.

“Gulden Leeuw” is one of the largest 3-mast topsail schooners (which means that the front mast is also square-rigged) in the world. The vessel was built in 1937, completely overhauled and refitted in 2009 and again recently.

She is almost 70 metres in total length (210 ft including bowsprit), carries 1,400 square metres of sail, and has around 60 people on board (crew and students).

Students ages 14-17 can apply to participate in the sailing excursion by e-mail:
