ST. EUSTATIUS--Two members of the Caribbean Netherlands Fire Department in St. Eustatius were promoted to the rank of “Manschap-B,” equivalent to that of a sergeant. The stripes ceremony took place at the Fire Station in Concordia on Wednesday.

St. Eustatius Fire Chief Andre Bennett pinned the stripes on Igmar Fortin and Wayne Spanner.

“Today I am more than happy and honoured to bestow this award on Wayne Spanner and Igmar Fortin, Bennett said. He said the two men have been working “very hard” for the past months to reach this milestone. “They have been working from 2017 until they acquired this new rank.”

Bennett said it initially was the intention to hold the ceremony during the Fire Department’s personnel appreciation evening, but as this was a very informal gathering it was decided to hold the promotion ceremony at a later date.

The two new sergeants thanked those who have worked to help them reach this milestone in their career.
