PHILIPSBURG--State Secretary for Digitalization, Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations Eddie van Marum is currently on a working visit across the Dutch Caribbean, including St. Maarten, St. Eustatius, Saba, Curaçao, and Bonaire.

During his visit to St. Maarten, Van Marum toured the Caribbean Coast Guard, accompanied by Prime Minister Luc Mercelina and Minister of Justice Nathalie Tackling. He boarded a “metal shark,” a fast surveillance and enforcement vessel, and expressed appreciation to Randy Paskel, Head of the Coast Guard Support Centre St. Maarten, and his team for providing valuable insights into maritime safety operations.

Van Marum also visited the cruise terminal at Port St. Maarten, where Business Development and Marketing Manager Lela Simmonds briefed him on the terminal’s development and operations.

Van Marum thanked Mercelina and Tackling for updating him on key developments in St. Maarten and highlighted the strong ongoing collaboration between the Netherlands and St. Maarten, particularly in border control and law enforcement. The visit underscores the commitment to maintaining safety, security and effective governance across the region.
