SURFACE WINDS:
Today through Thursday midday: South to southeast with a light to gentle breeze of 04 to 12 mph, becoming lighter and variable at times.
SYNOPSIS:
A warm and moist southerly wind flow coupled with an area of disturbed weather near the local region may produce some isolated showers, some of which could be heavy and possible isolated thunderstorms.
Seas are peaking near 8 feet due to northerly swells. Small craft operators and beach goers are advised to exercise caution through the next couple of days.
STATE OF THE SEA: Moderate to rough WAVES/SWELLS: 6 to 8 feet
SPECIAL FEATURE: Showers and thunderstorms associated with a poorly organized non-tropical disturbance are located a few hundred miles northwest of St. Maarten. This system could acquire some tropical characteristics or a tropical cyclone may develop within the next few days, as it drifts slowly away from the island. Due to its proximity it could trigger some isolated showers and isolated thunderstorms over some parts of the Northern Leeward Islands.
The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor this system.
