PUBLIC WEATHER FORECAST FOR ST. MAARTEN
DATE ISSUED: Friday, August 26, 2016 @ 12:00 LST (16:00 UTC)
VALID UNTIL: Saturday midday (12:00 LST) August 27, 2016

WEATHER:
Today through Saturday midday: Partly cloudy, becoming occasionally cloudy with local showers possible.

Forecast High: 31°C / 88°F Forecast Low: 27°C / 81°F

Sunset Today: 6:31 P.M. Sunrise Tomorrow: 5:57 A.M.

SURFACE WINDS:
Today through Saturday midday: East-southeasterly with a light to gentle breeze of 04 to 12 miles per hour.

SYNOPSIS:
A relatively moist and gentle east-southeasterly air flow will persist for the next several days. This moisture laden atmosphere coupled with weak winds and local effects could result in local isolated showers during this forecast period.
Furthermore, seas are expected to deteriorate on Saturday due to northeasterly swells, with conditions forecast to quickly improve by Sunday as these swells leave the local region. Small craft operators are advised to maintain caution.

STATE OF THE SEA: Moderate WAVES/SWELLS: 5 to 7 feet

SPECIAL FEATURE: A tropical wave located west of the Lesser Antilles has a low to medium chance of formation in the next few days. This system poses no threat to St. Maarten.

At 11:00 am, Tropical Storm Gaston continues its trek over the open Atlantic, well north of the Lesser Antilles, therefore posing no threat to St. Maarten.

The St. Maarten Meteorological Department will, however, continue to monitor the progress of these systems.

OUTLOOK through Sunday midday: Partly cloudy with a local shower possible.

FORECASTER: Pierre

The next weather forecast will be issued Today at 18:00 LST (22:00 UTC).
