ANGUILLA--This year’s Soca Monarch competition is being held with a new name - Soca Rave, and is being supported by Flow and Tropical Distributors, who on Monday, July 17, announced the competition.
The show will be held on August 3, and as usual will have two sections – Groovy and Power. There are 15 contestants for the Groovy part and 9 for Power. Some of the contestants will be appearing in both sections. Mr. Decent is the Power and Groovy King, and therefore will be defending both titles. There will be two guest performers at the show, Kenyo Baly, 2017 St. Maarten Groovy Monarch, and Luta from St. Vincent.
The first place winner in each category will receive a trophy, a crown, and EC $8,000. Second and third places will receive a trophy, and all participants will receive gift bags from Flow and Tropical Distributors.

Commercial Manager for Flow Jade Reymond said the company is proud to be partnering with Tropical Distributors, and they will be equal partners in the presentation that is estimated to cost US $23,000 exclusive of production and security costs that will be funded by the Government of Anguilla.
Marketing Manager for Tropical Distributors Moira Topalian said the company is very pleased to be on board, and is glad that local talent will have the opportunity to shine. She said the show will bring the people together.
Speaking on behalf of the Government, Bren Romney, Director of Youth and Culture, said both companies have a long history of supporting Summer Festival events, and that partnership is very important. He said the Summer Festival is a national event and showcases the best of the island’s culture, noting that while keeping the essence of the Festival, there must be room for new players.
