MARIGOT--Paris-based St. Martin singer Lydia Lawrence resumed her distribution of free school materials for St. Martin schools from her home in French Quarter, when she was back on island last week.

“This is the second year we are doing this distribution and both years have been a great success,” she said. “We’ve had a lot of children and parents so far and it’s great to see how happy they were to receive these materials. We would not be able to do it without the support of our main sponsor Air Caraïbes and Marketing Manager Veronique, who give us the tickets and generous baggage allowance to transport the materials. Believe me, it’s a lot of boxes to carry, so it’s a big thank you to them.”

The school materials come from France and first have to be transported by road to the airport in Paris. Super U in France is another sponsor which collaborates on this initiative by organizing donations.

The kind-hearted singer plans to return to the Dominican Republic and Haiti in January 2020, to distribute school materials and clothing again in impoverished areas, following a planned concert with her daughter in Guadeloupe.

Lawrence has made appearances in Guadeloupe this year, performing in concerts and making an appearance at the Tour of Guadeloupe bicycle race where she was invited to follow the races in the official cars and present jerseys on the podium.

Another consignment of school material is awaited from France for another distribution on September 7 and 8, before Lawrence returns to Paris on September 9.

Lawrence thanked her colleagues in her foundation “Une Lumière pour les Iles” for their love and support. “We are one family in the foundation and we do this with heart. That’s what’s important,” she added.
