WILLEMSTAD--Culture Week (“Siman di Kultura”) officially kicked off on Sunday. The theme of this 22nd edition is From Curaçao to the World. The opening day began with a holy mass at the Basilica of Santa Ana, followed by a short march from Breedestraat in Otrobanda to Molenplein.
Next, the official opening ceremony took place. During the event, Izaline Calister and Urny Florán were named this year’s culture bearers. Both were honoured by the government and received a plaque in recognition of their contributions to Curaçao culture. Calister attended the ceremony in person; Florán could not be there to attend and was represented by his sister.
Following the official proceedings, the programme continued with various cultural and musical performances. Throughout the day, visitors can walk between areas – from Molenplein to St. Martinus, via St. Martinusstraat to Brionplei – and experience different aspects of local culture, including music, art, poetry, dance, gastronomy, local products, workshops and activities for the whole family.
