ST. EUSTATIUS--Several flights from St. Maarten, Bonaire and Trinidad touched down at and took off from F.D. Roosevelt Airport in St. Eustatius on Tuesday, August 25.

The airport has been relatively quiet these past months and weeks with only some medivac flights, once per week a scheduled flight by Winair from St. Maarten, and some recent repatriation flights breaking the quiet in Statia’s airspace. This is due to the coronavirus measures to largely close the borders of the island, which were implemented by the public entity St. Eustatius.

Only persons from low-risk COVID-19 countries and territories are allowed to enter Statia without needing to go into quarantine for 14 days. Persons who travel to the island from medium- or high-risk countries are put into quarantine for 14 days. The cost of the accommodation is at the travellers’ expense unless they are patients of Health Insurance Office ZVK.

A flight of Bequia Air from Trinidad took off early Tuesday afternoon with tugboat crew members on board who have been in Statia since the onset of the border closure in March due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. This left the crew members unable to travel to their home country.

Bequia Air made two trips on Tuesday. One flight took off in the morning and the other departed from Roosevelt Airport at 4:44pm. The aircraft also transported passengers to Statia.

Two EZ Air aircraft brought ZVK patients home to Statia. On board were several new-born babies and other passengers.

Also travelling were Caribbean Netherlands Police Force KPCN officers from Bonaire to support their colleagues in Statia. Several police officers at the local precinct have gone on vacation. The officers were welcomed by Acting Chief Inspector of Basic Police Care St. Eustatius Marc Rienhart.

Two EZ Air flights departed Statia with passengers on board. One aircraft flew to Curaçao and the other transported passengers to Bonaire.

SXM Airways took passengers from Statia to Saba and vice versa, and transferred passengers from Statia to St. Maarten.
