PHILIPSBURG--St. Maarten was gripped by its second country-wide power outage in one week on Wednesday, when the electricity went off in households and businesses throughout the country from around mid-afternoon.
GEBE’s public relations official Paula Gordon confirmed that the outage was country-wide.
She said GEBE head of operations had indicated that “faults” were discovered on two of the company’s main cables, which could have caused the outage.
“Our technicians are still working on the exact cause, of which you will be updated. Presently the technicians are at the power plant working on restoring power to the districts,” she said in a statement issued early Wednesday evening.
A lengthy country-wide outage occurred on Wednesday, December 20.
