ST. EUSTATIUS--Seahawks from Statia’s wahoo-fishing team donated 300 pounds of wahoo fish to Chapel Piece Health and Recreational Centre on Monday.

The donation presented by Seahawks representative William de Gannes will be used as one of the main courses for the centre’s Christmas dinner. Management, staff and members of the centre thanked the donors.

Several NuStar Statia Terminals employees and contractors participated in the Saba Day Wahoo Tournament 2018. Considering the aftermath of Hurricane Irma in 2017 as well as expected rough seas during the competition, this year’s tournament was still well attended with 16 boats taking part from Dutch St. Maarten/French St. Martin, St. Barths, St. Kitts and St. Eustatius with 99 participants.

Statia’s eight-member Seahawk team hauled in its largest catch to date: 13 wahoo with a total weight of 397 pounds. The team finished first in total weight, earning second place in the tournament. The team presented a substantial amount of the catch to Chapel Piece for its annual Christmas dinner for the elderly.
