Scooter with passenger hits pedestrian    on Brouwers Road, three hospitalized 

The scooter rider left the scene on foot and was stopped by police   

PHILIPSBURG--A traffic accident on A.J.C. Brouwers Road on Thursday night left a pedestrian and a scooter passenger seriously injured, according to the St. Maarten Police Force KPSM. 

 The collision occurred around 8:00pm, approximately 100 meters past the Churchill Roundabout, near the first bus stop on Brouwers Road. Police dispatch received several calls reporting that a pedestrian had been struck by a scooter.

  Upon arrival, police officers and ambulance personnel found a male pedestrian with serious injuries. A second victim, later identified as the scooter’s passenger, was also injured. 

 The scooter rider reportedly attempted to flee the scene but was intercepted by an officer near a nearby insurance company. He sustained facial injuries and, along with the passenger, was taken to the St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) for treatment. 

 KPSM’s Traffic Department has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The police reiterated their ongoing efforts to address reckless scooter behavior and improve road safety across the island.
